[TUTORIAL] Majestic Makeup- Using Silk Naturals (mini-review)

Hello Everyone!

Recently I was sent some loose eyeshadows from Silk Naturals so I wanted to do a makeup tutorial and a mini review on them. Silk Naturals offer a wide variety of mineral makeup. Their loose eyeshadows promise to be crease resistant and fade proof. They are very pigmented and give the best color payoff when applied wet. I like how they mention the exact shade and finish that they used for their eyeshadows in the description. Best of all they have swatches too! Which makes it so much easier to pick a color since I always end up looking for swatches for makeup products. They offer samples of all of their products so you can try out their selection at a small price.

Here is the look I came up with! Its a very easy smokey eye, a look that I love doing since its just takes some blending to accomplish. If you want to learn how to create this look keep reading!

Start off by applying your eyeshadow base. The first shade I used on my lid is Twister. Its described as a gorgeous satin pearl shade of teal. It's lovely- a really nice compliment to Lunar. Its a gorgeous shimmer finish light blue.

I applied this with a damp flat shader brush. Note when you use eyeshadow wet to not use a soaking wet brush, it should be damp enough to make the eyeshadow in a paste.

Apply this on the center of the lid making sure to press the shadow onto the lid.

This is what you should have.

Next we are going to take the darkest shade, Kingfisher. Kingfisher has a navy base, with aqua green highlights, and aqua glimmers. Its sort of a duo chrome finish with blues and greens, its nothing like I have ever used before. It applies really smoothly and when used wet it still gives off a really nice glitter effect.

Taking the same damp brush, apply this on the outer crease in a V shape. Blending it up into the crease. Make sure to pack on the color.

I wanted to darken up the crease a bit more. Taking a matte black on a fluffy blending brush and blend Kingfisher into Twister. I used the Sigma blending brush with Rimmel's Jet Black.

For the inner corner we are going to take Vapor. Its a creamy blue highlight Vapor looks like a shimmery cream color in the jar but when you apply it, it has the prettiest hint of blue highlights. It has a pearlescent slightly sheer finish with just a hint of sparkle. It applies really sheer so it makes the perfect highlight shade.

Taking Vapor on a small blending brush, apply this in the inner corner and blending it down to the lashline.

This is what you should have. I wanted the navy glitter of Kingfisher to come out a bit so I tapped on a bit of it on the outer corner with my finger.

Next taking a matte cream shade, blend out the harsh edges.

To make this.

Now taking a makeup wipe, clean up the edges creating a sharp outer edge.

Now just apply your favorite black eyeliner and mascara and you are done!

Here is what I came up with for the rest of my face. I wanted to keep the lips a bit neutral with a soft pink shade. The blush is a rosy shade and I used Vapor as a highlight on my cheekbones.

To Sum it up:

These shadows are a breeze to use. I didn't find any diffculity in applying them or getting a good color pay off. The pigmentation of these are really opaque. Vapor works really well as a cheekbone highlight since its a sheer highlight color. I didn't notice the blue undertone in Vapor which was mentioned in the product description. Since I always use a eyeshadow base I didn't notice it fading or creasing of any of these. The best way to use these is either with a cream shadow base or applied wet.

[REVIEW] Silk Naturals Cream Concealer in Shade 1 and Shade 2

I rarely ever branch out when it comes to concealer's, there are only a handful that I have tried and if there is one product that works for me I just use it until it runs out. I've always used stick concealers since I think they give the best coverage and are so much easier to apply. The Silk Naturals Cream Concealers offer a good selection of concealers and correctors. The pigmentation of these give full coverage and have a smooth application.

What Silk Naturals Say:

#1 is the lightest shade of Cream Concealer, with just a hint of peach tone. It covers well, and is light and easy to blend. Depending on your skin type you may need to set this with a little bit of powder, but usually just a dusting of powder foundation on top works well.

#2 is the second lightest shade of creamy concealer. It covers well, and is light and easy to blend. Depending on your skin type you may need to set this with a little bit of powder, but usually just a dusting of powder foundation on top works well.

Packaging:
I find the easiest way to apply concealer is when it comes in a stick tube. These are really handy for traveling.

Swatches:
Shade 1 has more yellow undertone. Shade 2 has more of a light apricot undertone which worked best for my dark circles. Shade 1 works amazing for a highlight on my cheek bones. These have a really smooth consistency and blend in very easily. Since these are creamy they will crease, I find that setting the concealer with a powder will give you the most staying power and will last all day.

To Sum it up:

The cream concealer comes in a variety of shades to counter balance your imperfections. I like how Shade 2 isn't a bright orange correcter, it brightens up my eye area while concealing my dark circles. I really like how natural the coverage is, it doesn't look cakey or too bright. I have been using this for a few weeks now and I haven't found any issues with it. With some concealers that I have tried they tend to build up into my fine lines, this one didn't. It gave an even coverage without enhancing the lines under my eyes. It easy to apply, especially on days when you are in a hurry. It blends flawlessly, you can use your fingers or a blending brush for an even application. This has been my go to concealer since its practically fool-proof!

[REVIEW] The Body Needs Eyeshadows

I've always had a fondness for loose eyeshadows. The pigmentation and finish of mineral shadows give superb color pay-off. For today's post I will be reviewing some loose eyeshadows from The Body Needs. What's neat about The Body Needs is that they have real MAC shadows and pigments. They constantly update their MAC products with the latest collections. Not only that but they have numerous shade selection for loose shadows, glitter pigments and lip products. Any eyeshadow shade that you are looking for, chance are they will have it.

The Shades I picked out are:
Blanc- Matte finish white
Matte Violet- Matte finish violet
Alt Gold- Frost finish light yellow gold with green reflex
Blackened Bronze- Shimmery blackened brown

I am always looking for matte shadows to pair up with shimmer ones. With most matte shadows they come off a bit chalky, these have a very smooth texture. I am in love with Blanc, its richly pigmented matte white which I have been looking for ages!

I wanted a dupe for Makeup Forever's #92 eyeshadow, which is a the most gorgeous matte violet shade and I think I found it with Matte Violet. It comes off looking a bit lighter than MUFE's #92 in the pot but I found that if I apply this wet it turns into a slightly deeper shade.

Alt Gold is the most unique shade I have ever seen. Its sad that my camera did not pick up on the gorgeous green reflex in this shadow. I noticed I didn't need to apply this wet to get the best pigmentation, it works amazing on its own!

Blackened Bronze is a part of the Blackened Collection which has the most gorgeous shades. I love deep dark colors so the collection is perfect for thoes who like to do intense smokey eyes. This came in a Crush Pot which is a pressed version of the loose shadow. Most of the same shadows come in both versions. Crush Pots are a bit easier for some to use.

Packaging:

The prominent change of the new version is the packaging. Previously the Whitening Base came in a short tube, now the product comes in a thinner squeezeable tube with a tiny opening. It dispenses the perfect amount of product since you need the smallest bit to cover your entire face.

The product is a white creamy consistency, same as the previous version, which gives a sheer tint to your skin. You only need a small amount of product to apply all over your skin. If you find that this leaves your skin looking too ghostly than you applied too much which was one of my first mistakes.

To Sum it up:

This worked pretty ok for me since its the winter season, I am not sure how this would perform under humidity and heat. It evened out my skin-tone and gave a bit of moisture. I find that this product has replaced my moisturizer before I start my makeup, since I have an oily T-zone even the lightest formula moisturizer makes my skin feel greasy. I wish that it mattified my skin, after a few hours of using this my t-zone did get oily which I would expect a primer to help control the oil and keep my foundation on all day. It does however leave my skin feeling softer, the added SPF 35 is a great benefit with the formula. This also works really well to slightly minimize my pores.

I love how this product feels on my face, it doesn't leave any sort of cakey appearance but it really brightens up the skin. I normally use this with my Bare Minerals Foundation in Medium Beige for daytime coverage and after 2-3 few hours my t-zone starting getting oily. I have tried this for an evening look just to see how it would work as a primer, I didn't notice a huge difference compared to not using it. I find this to be perfect for an everyday SPF with a hint of coverage but if you have really oily skin then don't expect this to keep your skin oil-free throughout the day. If you have dry skin and the previous version left your skin looking flaky then the Normal/Dry Whitening Base will help to hydrate your skin.

[TUTORIAL] Gunmetal Smokes-- Inspired by Emma Stone at 2012 Golden Globes

Hello Everyone!

About a week or so ago Hareem from iheartmexo requested for me to do a tutorial on the eye makeup that Emma Stone wore at this years Golden Globe Awards. I absolutely adore Emma, she is such a witty and versatile actress so I was thrilled to be requested this soft smokey look. Emma wore a very pretty grey smokey eye with a bit of black on the inner and outer corner. This technique really helps to bring out the eyes more since the lightest shade is in the middle of the lid. She is an ambassador of Revlon so most of the products she used were from the brand.

This is my second attempt to create this look, the first time I shot this look I wasn't happy with how it turned out. Although I am no professional makeup artist I wanted it to be really similar to her look so I hope you all like what I created. I recreated the look using some shimmery grey and gunmetal shades. Here is what I came up with:

So lets get started shall we?

First start off with your favorite eyeshadow primer to even out your eyelid. I used Essence You Rock Eyeshadow Base. Now taking a creamy black eyeliner, something that is easily smudgeable. Start by creating a V-shape on the outer corner of your eye, this will help map out the cat eye shape.

Next we are going to take a small smudger brush and blend out the eyeliner. Make sure you don't over blend, just make sure the black eyeliner is smoothed out.

This is what you should have, make sure the outer V still has its shape. You can always clean up the edges to make it more sharp.

Next we are going to take a slate grey shade and apply it all of the lid leaving the inner and outer corner bare. The shade I used is from a Mabrook palette with a flat shader brush to really pack on the color.

Next we are going to take a gunmetal shade, this should be at least 1 or 2 shades darker then the grey on the lid. You can use the same brush for this, and apply it in the inner corner blending it up into the slate grey.

Taking an angled brush, I wanted to use the same slate grey shade, and blend out the gunmetal shade into the inner corner.

Taking a shimmery black on the same smudge brush that we used for the base, apply this on the outer corner on top of the black eyeliner. I didn't want to use a matte black because then it would be a bit too black so we want to keep the grey tones to be prominent. I used a CoverGirl eyeshadow in Shimmering Onyx. I didn't use a blending brush because I wanted to have a bit more control with the color, using a blending brush can move the color all over the lid and we don't want that. What makes Emma's look really pretty is the cat eye shape of the outer corner, it comes out in a V-shape. Also make sure to blend the slate grey and black smoothly.

Taking the same black, use what is leftover on the brush and apply a little bit of it on the inner corner. Apply this on top of the gun metal shade.

This is what you should have by now, you can take a makeup wipe and clean up the fall out and then apply concealer.

Time for blending! Take a matte cream color on a blending brush and apply this where your eyeshadow ends. Sweep the shadow all over the brow bone to blend out the harsh edges. I used a matte cream from the Catrice Duo in 070 Double Expresso Macchaito, Please! with Elf Studio Contour brush.

Also, apply the same slate grey eyeshadow on the lower lashline using a damp angled liner brush to really pack on the color. Take the same brush and apply a bit of black on the outer lashline to connect the slate grey and black.

Next apply your favorite eyeliner, I used Avon's Glimmerstick in Blackest Black (read my review here) Make sure to not line your eyes very thick, Emma's eyeliner is really clean on the waterline as well as the top lashline. I also applied this on my tightline. For my mascara I used Avon Wash-Off Waterproof mascara in Black.

This is how your eyes should look now! The eyeliner isn't so noticeable but its there, which is exactly what we want!

[REVIEW] Makeup Academy (MUA) Pro Extreme Curl Mascara

Finding the perfect mascara takes a bit of trial and error. Depending on what you want for your lashes there are mascaras that claim to give you thick voluminous lashes or long lustrous lashes. The Makeup Academy (MUA) Extreme Curl mascara in Black Brown claims to shape and curl your lashes. Here is my review on the product!

MUA Say:
Extreme Curl Mascara shapes lashes beautifully from root to tip for long-lasting curl.

Packaging:
The packaging of the mascara comes in a cute metallic tube, the wand is long and curved. The consistency of the mascara was wet when I first used it but then after some months now its the perfect formula. Not too dry or wet. When the formula was wet I found it a bit difficult to work with since the wand is long and tapered. The wand ends up having too much product on the tip so you would need to wipe it off.

I find that with just one coat it gives amazing length and curls the lashes. I find that it gives a bit of volume but not a lot. The wand is perfect for getting the tiniest lashes. I use the wand curved down for my upper lashes and curved up to get my bottom lashes. It really helps to get the difficult inner and outer corner lashes.

To Sum it up:
My lashes naturally stick straight down and I find that it gives a tiny bit curl to them naturally but with curling my lashes it helps to keep the curl up. If you have lashes that don't need to be curled, this mascara is perfect for you. The mascara does start to clump if you keep wanting to build up the length. It does start to weight down my lashes if I apply too much. It gives a good amount of length and a bit of volume with just one coat. The only problem with this mascara is that it starts to feel uncomfortable to wear after 4 hours. I haven't had any issue with smudging or flaking.

- Can make lashes feel hard and uncomfortable after 4 hours

[NAILS] Catrice- Up In The Air

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share with you all the nail polish I picked out to wear today. Catrice's Up In The Air is creme sky blue polish. Its such a breeze to apply and dries pretty quickly. I applied 2 coats and its the perfect opacity!

[TUTORIAL] Sultry Sweetheart-- Valentine's Day Eye look

Hello everyone!

I've been seeing a lot of Valentine's day inspired makeup around the beauty blog world so I wanted to do a look that would be perfect for the occasion or any other late night event. The look I came up with has a soft pink shadow all over the lid and then using a deep plum shade in the crease. I used a rich black gel liner to accentuate the eyes along with lengthening black mascara to really make the eye's smokey and sultry!

So lets get started! First prime your eyelid with your favorite primer, you want to make sure the primer evens out your skin tone. The first shade I used is Bare Escentuals loose eyeshadow in Strawberry Daiquiri. You can use any light frosty pink shade. I applied this with a damp flat shader brush from Clarity.

Next taking a matte black shadow and a flat liner brush you want to map out where you want the crease to end. I use this method instead of applying tape since it's really uncomfortable for me. I used Noir from Sleek's Oh So Special Palette with Avon's liner brush.

Next taking Sigma's E25 blending brush and a deep plum shade start by blending out the black and then take the shadow and keep applying it. I used Celebrate from Sleek's Oh So Special Palette. You want to create a smooth gradient to the pink. Make sure to NOT apply too much product.

Now we are going to start darkening the shadow. Taking the same plum shade on a tapered brush, create a C shape with the shadow and blending it up into the crease. I used Adesign's Pointed Concealer brush.

This is what you should have now. Make sure you blend the purple and pink well. Next taking a matte cream shade blend the edges of the purple. I took Bow from Sleek's Oh So Special Palette with a sponge tip applicator to pack on the color.

Taking the same matte shade apply this in the inner tear duct making sure to blend it in with the pink.

This is what you should have now! I took some more of the purple and the black and applied it on the lower lashline making sure to connect it with crease shade. I also took a peachy shade from the same Sleek palette and applied it in the middle of the lash line.

Now clean up all of the fallout and apply your favorite black eyeliner and mascara. I used Essence Midnight in Paris gel liner on the top and lower lashline and Avon's waterproof mascara in black.

Products and Tips to help grow your hair

Since the past year I made the commitment to grow my hair out. I've never liked having long hair before because it is a bit more difficult to manage and it takes some effort to take care of. My hair isn't extremely long but this is the longest its ever been for me and its exciting for me to see it grow. My hair grows really slow, I would say about 2 inches every 6 months. I've seen so many girls who have long hair but you can tell they don't take care of their locks. What's the point to having long hair when more than half is just nasty split ends?

So I wanted to share some tips and products to keep your hair long and healthy if you are planning to grow it out and to avoid nasty split ends. Of course you don't have to use ALL of the mentioned products but I wanted to shed some light on some that I found to be very helpful to me.

Products to help keep your hair long and healthy:

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Olive oil is your best friend. Oil a necessity for keeping moisture locked in your hair. I usually apply oil at the ends and a little on my scalp at least once a week, I leave it on for about 4 hours or so. If your hair is really dry I would recommend to use it more then once a week depending on how often you wash your hair.

Tip: Use Coconut Oil in the summer since it works really well to seal in moisture. In the winters the weather is dry so it won't work well for your hair.

Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Shampoo
I love this shampoo! I always fear getting split ends and end up having to chop off my hair but this has helped in keeping my ends really healthy. It doesn't leave my hair that dry but for someone who has really dry hair I would recommend using their conditioner with this. I don't use conditioner since my hair gets extremely oily after a day. Ever since I stopped using conditioner my hair looks clean and less sticky even after the first day of washing it and I prefer to wash my hair every other day. If needed I use a tiny bit of the Sunsilk Smooth and Soft conditioner only at the ends.

Dove Smooth and Soft Frizz Cream/ Leave In Replenishing Mist
Some days when I want to style my hair I use a frizz serum. These work really well and it only takes a small amount for all over the ends. I use either one of these after my hair is dry. What I love about Dove products is that they don't add so much moisture that your hair looks oily, it will help in keeping your hair detangled and soft throughout the day. I apply either one of these on the ends.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock/Satin Shine
For a kick of shine I use the Shine Shock, its a serum formula so it works really well for after your straighten your hair. The Satin Shine is similar to the Dove Anti Frizz Cream, it leaves my hair soft and manageable throughout the day.

Papaya Volumizing Spray
My hair tends to be flat with long hair. One of the main reasons why I never liked growing my hair. This product really helps in giving a boost of volume on the scalp. I use this after washing my hair, after combing my hair I spritz this on my scalp and then I take a small clip and create a bump leaving it on until my hair dries. Once dried my crown area gets a ton of volume. It does harden if you spray too much.

Wide Tooth Comb

For me I need to comb my hair throughout the day if I've kept it all down. Tangles can result to damaging your hair. So comb your hair before and after you shower as well as before going to bed. If you comb your hair before you shower it'll make be easier to wash your hair and prevent any further tangles after you're done showering.

Tip: With a wide tooth comb start combing your hair from the ends and work your way up.

So here is how long my hair is now, it might not be long for some but for me this is pretty long! Its been a huge commitment to keep it growing since I loved having short hair.

1. Apply evenly to dry face after foam cleansing.

2. Rinse off after 10- 25 minutes.

For an even application I used a synthetic flat foundation brush, something cheap will work really well. I found that when I apply it with my fingers i ended up with a thick layer so it took longer to dry. Once it dries it hardens so then you can just use warm water to wash it off.

The Pore Minimizing Pack is suitable for all skin types. It looks similar to a clay formula and it takes about 15-25 minutes to dry. It doesn't have any scent and its free from alcohol so it will not dry out your skin. While using it is gives this really refreshing tingle that feels cooling as the product promises which is from the peppermint extract. It has helped in tightening my pores as well as giving a deep cleanse removing dirt and oil.

After the first time I used it my skin did not feel dry at all, it felt soft, supple and free from oil especially around my t-zone. I noticed that even after a day my skin still felt clean and oil-free.

My Results:
For 2 weeks I've been using this mask, I used it every other day since it wasn't drying out my skin. I apply it all over my face and wait about 20 mins then I remove it with a warm washcloth. Til now I haven't seen any major changes in the appearance of my pores around my nose but on my cheeks it has lessened. The texture of my skin has changed to being more softer and less oily. I do have the most hideous pores around my nose as you can see.

To Sum it up:

I really like the after effects of using this product. It doesn't leave my skin dried out while also reducing the amount of oil around my t-zone. I really like how this product keeps my skin soft for more than a day, most masks end up giving you a soft texture to your skin but it will only last for a few hours and your skin ends up being oily again so I prefer using this. You receive 100g of product which is a lot since its a thick product so you don't need a lot to use it all over your face. I didn't see any major changes on the appearance of my pores.

The Luscious Lip Coutures were launched a few years back and ever since they have been a hit with many Pakistani Beauty Bloggers. The claim to fame is due to it being a pigmented liquid lip color that last for hours. For today I will be reviewing the shade En Vogue which is a perfect warm pink.

I like how the product is scented but you can't taste it, since I always end up eating some of my lipglosses that have a taste to them. It keeps my lips hydrated even after the product has faded away.

The Lip Coutures come in a variety of pink and red shades that suit all skin tones. I like how the shades are not all bold colors, all of the shades are wearable even for daytime. Although I would've liked to see some coral and berry shades in the product line.

To Sum it up:
Overall a great long wearing product but it does transfer once you eat or drink. The consistency of the lip color is thick so the product applies really smoothly and evenly. I like how rich the pigmentation is, even with my lips the shade is vibrant. I find that I don't need to wear a lip liner under the product because it doesn't feather or bleed out. It gives a nice shine to the lips without being overly glossy. I really like how these don't have shimmer in them, you can always add a gloss on top if you like that effect.

[TUTORIAL] Peaches and Cream Eye Look using ELF and Essence

Hello everyone!

I wanted to do a very natural but fun look using some peachy colors since its not practical to wear bright and bold colors for every occasion! I didn't use heavy black eyeliner but really just used a black gel liner to enhance the lashline. This look can be worn out for a daytime occasion since it is very light and only using a few colors. The entire look can be done with just the ELF Butternut Quad, so if you are looking for a great inexpensive quad I recommend checking it out!

Here is the look I came up with!

So lets get started!

First prime your eyelid using your favorite primer, then add a thin layer of a cream color base. I used a shimmery cream from a Avon trio in Dreamy

Taking the peachy color from the ELF Butternut Quad (I depoted the shadows in case you are wondering), apply that on the inner corner.

Taking a peachy color that's less shimmery and apply it all over the lid. I used Essence Urban Messages Eyeshadow in 03 Peace It.

Taking a cream bronzey-brown shade on a tapered pencil brush, apply that on the outer corner and taking it up into the crease. This will help bring out the powder shadows, just make sure to apply a really thin layer and blend it out. I used the same Avon trio in Dreamy.

I took a shimmery bronze color and applied it over the cream shadow, I used Essence Eyeshadow in 35 Party All Night.

Just to darken up the crease I took the darkest brown from the Elf Butternut Quad and applied it lightly over in the outer corner with the same pencil brush. Make sure to blend everything out.

Now we are going to highlight! Taking a light shimmery cream color apply that on the inner corner and directly under the arch of your eyebrow. I used Shade 1 from the MUA Heaven & Earth Palette. I also applied a copper color on the lower lashline from the same palette. Then I took an orange pencil and applied it in the waterline, I used the Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil in 13 Remember Amber.

For lining the lashline I used the Essence Gel Liner in Midnight in Paris (Read my review here) on a really thin flat brush. This brush is great for really getting into the lashline and making a thin delicate line. Apply the liner really close to the lashes.

For Mascara I applied MUA's Extreme Curl in Black brown. I also used a Christine's Black/brown pencil just to darken up the lower lashline.

So I hope you all liked this look! I hope this was an easy look for everyone to achieve. Let me know if you will be trying this out or if there are any other products you would like to recommend keeping with the brown and peach color scheme.

Swatch:
I would describe Scrumptiously Devious as a pink nude with gold shimmer. It is a very sheer finish so if your lips are dark it will not show up as much. I do prefer to wear this as a daytime lip-color because it has a very nice golden sheen so I like wearing this without a gloss.

To Sum it up:

Scrumptiously Devious wears about 3 hours for me, I find that after an hour it starts to sink into the fine lines on my lips. It is a sheer finish so it really just enhances your natural lipcolor. It is hydrating and it feels like a lip balm so it does look nice without a gloss. It has an odd scent to it, which is kind of similar to a lip balm. Overall I really enjoy using this during the day since it is sheer.

Some days I love going for dark vampy nails. On my nails today is a deep black purple shade from Picture Polish called Aphrodisiac. I love how they name their polishes. I wish that this polish has a bit more sparkles since it looks gorgeous in the bottle but on my nails it shows up as a creme finish. I took a photo with flash which shows a bit of the sparkles.

All of these lipsticks have a matte finish but still provide moisture which is why they show up smooth on the lips. Two Lips is a soft rosey pink. Sure Thing is a cherry red. Sunblind is a peachy pink.

To Sum it up:
I wouldn't say these are long lasting. I find that with matte finish lipsticks they do generally last longer. I really like how easily these apply and very smoothly. You do have to apply a few layers to get a opaque color, they aren't sheer. They are not drying at all but I find that these sink into my lips and after a few hours it doesn't feel like I have anything on. These lasted about 4 hours on my lips without a lipliner but I am sure if I used a lipliner they would last longer. These have a scent which I can't pinpoint but it is somewhat fruity that might be bothersome if you don't like scented lip products. These contain 1.5g of product which is half the amount you would get in a normal lipstick so these will get used up pretty fast.

[REVIEW] Liz Earle Sheer Pink Lip Shimmer

During the winter’s our lips are the most prone to dryness. Moisturizing them is really important so when I saw the Liz Earle Sheer Pink Lip Shimmer I wanted to try this since it states to be a shimmery lip salve.

The lip shimmer is a light lip balm formula that comes in a pink pot. It has the slightest shimmer but on my lips it doesn’t show up. For those with lighter lips this will be perfect for an everyday lip balm.

I am not a huge fan of lip products which I have to use my finger to get the product, it’s unhygienic and a bit annoying to stick my finger in to get product. The texture of the product is really unique, it’s a solid but dissolves once you rub your finger to get some product.

When applied, it doesn't feel like a normal lip balm but you can feel more oil's in the product. The scent of the product is really organic, it doesn't have any artificial fruity scent which might be bothersome to some. I like applying this on top of lipsticks since it gives a nice hydrated feel without it being overly glossy.

Overall I think this is a nice product to use everyday if you don't mind using your fingers for application. My lips feel well hydrated even after the product wears off from my lips.

[REVIEW] Essence Gel Eyeliner in 01 Midnight in Paris

Kohl eyeliners never work for me. I find that no matter what brand I use after a few hours I end up having raccoon eyes. No matter how much black eyeshadow I set it with they never last long and end up smudging through the day. Liquid eyeliners are a bit better but I find that they end up fading through the day. Thus comes the gel eyeliner known for being the longest wearing product for eyeliner. The Essence Gel Liner in 01 Midnight in Paris is opaque, jet black and has a creamy consistency. I picked this up after visiting their launch at Naheed's Super Market here in Karachi I knew I wanted to try this gel liner.

I love this brand! Their packaging is so adorable and the quality is just amazing. Their general market is for teenage girls since their products have such low prices.

01 Midnight in Paris is a smooth mousse-like jet black gel liner that dries to a semi-matte finish. The product comes in a glass pot with a plastic lid. This is one of those products where a little goes a long way! Just the tiniest dab if product can line your entire eye.

Essence Says:

It's ultra-smooth gel formula allows an accurate application similar to liquid eyeliner. The range offers various effects, such as matte or shimmering. Simply dip the special Essence Gel Eyeliner Brush into the pot and effortlessly paint a perfect quick drying line. You're left with an ultra long-lasting, smudge and waterproof look! Available in three colors.

The product is super creamy, more like a mousse texture. It dries within couple of seconds once dried its completely smudge-proof and fade-proof. I find that when I apply a thick layer it doesn't dry completely and it transfers to my lid. The color doesn't fade at all and its super waterproof! I really like using this in my upper lashline, it doesn't irritate my eye at all which most products do when I apply product there.

To Sum it Up:
Overall a great product. The product applies really smoothly, it takes the tiniest bit of product to line your entire eye so the pot will last you a very long time. It lasts a very long time on my eyes without budging. I love using this product, the application is really easy and I find that it doesn't make my eyes water which has been an issue with my sensitive eyes. Since it is a waterproof product my oil based makeup remover didn't work that well however extra virgin olive oil easily removed the product.

It comes in 3 other colors London Baby (brown), Berlin Rocks (deep ) and I Love NYC (green).

2012 Beauty Resolutions!

Since the new year has arrived I've been reading numerous blog posts on new years resolutions! So I have been inspired to implement some beauty resolutions to really improve the way I use makeup

Finish a product!
Ever since I got into makeup I always like to try out new things or try out my moms products. I think sometimes I end up NOT using a product because I like it so much so I don't want it to run out...psychologically insane. I honestly can think of only 2 products that I have ever come close to finishing. I think using up a product in its entirety should be implemented because makeup ends up expiring especially with creams that dry up.

Learn to contour!
I can never for the life of me contour my face. I am always afraid of doing a bad job so I will start practicing more.

Toss out the old!
Before beauty blogging I didn't really own a wide selection of products. I used my moms lipsticks and blushes which were ancient. So with the start of the new year I have already tossed out a few lipsticks, eyeshadows and blushes.

Keep it clean!
Hygiene. We never really think about the germs and bacteria in our makeup. Just like in science, if we use a product and start double dipping into them or use our fingers we are adding more and more germs to our makeup. So I will definitely keep a makeup sponge to whip off my brush with.

Moisturize those nails!
Before blogging I never took care of my nails. When I started doing nails of the day I noticed my cuticles were extremely dry and were all over my nailbed. I have started to make a habit of applying some olive oil on my cuticles before I go to sleep which is helping really well.

Files nails every week!
Again, I never took care of my nails and even now my nails are chipping which is due to not filing them. So at least once a week I want to keep them in a neat shape.

[EYES] Violet Midnight-- Smokey Blue and Purple New Years Eve Look

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I wanted to make a quick post to wish EVERYONE a happy and blessed start of the new year! Doing eye makeup was the #1 reason why I started blogging and this year has been amazing!

So I wanted to share with you all my eye makeup for today. I will be going to my cousins place for a late dinner which is going to be a lot of fun with the family! For this look I wanted to use my Essence Urban Messages Eyeshadow in Nightline, its a rich deep navy blue. Its just stunning. I wanted to use some pinks and purple into the look so I applied some bright purple all over the lid. For the base I used a bright purple eyeliner.

[Product of the Year] Christine Concealer --My 100th post!!

Hello Everyone!

This post is really special to me since its my 100th! So I wanted to share with you all a product that I have been loving this year. When I look back on 2011 almost every other week I changed what makeup I use, either a different eyeliner, foundation or setting powder. But the one product that I have used consistency since late last year is the Christine Concealer in Shade 05 Tan, it is my most reached for product. I was a bit hesitant on reviewing this product because the brand isn't popular with bloggers since it's only available in Pakistan. I wanted to shed some light on the product since I find that its worked really well for my dark circles.

Concealing under-eye circles is one step that I never skip out on with makeup, I can always get away with skipping foundation. With wearing glasses my dark circles become more visible. Christine Concealer in Shade 05 Tan is a full coverage opaque salmon-tone shade which is best for blue-based under-eye circles. I find that the product doesn't leave behind a very orange shade, it leaves your skin looking really bright after application.

The product promises to dry out blemishes which I never have dark blemishes to really test out this claim.

When I first bought this concealer it was extremely stubborn to work with because the product was so stiff. So I tossed it aside and didn't bother using it for a month or so. Like most of the products I try I always end up forcing myself to use the product again and it really doesn't work out I will never bother with it. So after a couple of times using it by warming it up with my finger it became easier to apply the product. After multiple times using this method the product become really easy to work with and now the product is really creamy. I found that I always need to moisturize my eye area before applying it since it makes the application a lot more easier to blend.

To sum it up:
This concealer works really well for those who have really dark circles or scars. I find that it really brightens up my eye area. It has a orange undertone so it hides blue-tone dark circles really well. I really like how pigmented and creamy it is, though you do have to work with the product to warm it up to get it to become creamy. You have to make sure to moisturize your eye area before you apply. If you find that concealers set into your fine lines then apply a primer, either an eyeshadow primer or makeup base. For long days I find that if I applied too much it will set into fine lines so a little goes a long way. If you are looking for something inexpensive this is a great bargain product.

[REVIEW] E.L.F Super Glossy Lip Shine in Mod Mauve & Watermelon

After trying a bunch of ELF products I realized I hadn't tried any of their lip products. So I placed an order on ELF Pakistan for some Super Glossy Lip Shine's and some Essential Lipsticks. For Rs.170 I though why not? I will be reviewing the lipsticks as per request!

So I purchased 2 Super Glossy Lip Shines. I didn't like the other essential lip glosses since they come in a pen so you don't get a lot of product. With these you get a sufficient amount of product for the price! I wanted to try a very opaque shade and a very sheer one and I found that these Mod Mauve and Watermelon were perfect.

I like both of the shades I picked and they will last me a few months depending on how often I use them. I love wearing both on their own! If I want to wear a gloss for daytime I opt for Watermelon and for a dark lip for a night occasion I go for Mod Mauve.

Generally lipglosses do not stay on longer then 2 or 3 hours depending on how you eat and how often you touch your lips. With a few tips you can make you lip glosses stay on for about 4 hours or more. By using a lip liner, eating with a utensil and not licking your lips.

Mod Mauve is a really pigmented deep rose shade. Watermelon is a bubblegum pink shade. These glosses are really sticky but it contributes to their lasting power.

The glosses have a thick consistency which I really like since they apply really well and they don't bleed out during the day. I find on some days when my lips are chapped I apply this gloss and it helps to hydrate them but I wouldn't do this often.

To Sum it Up:
I really like how these feel and smell on the lips. They have a fruity scent which I really like! With the added SPF 15 it is a nice little gloss to have on the go. Now I am not too fond of the tube glosses, they look a bit childish however it is really convenient to use on the go. Overall a great bargain product. I don't have any major dislikes. I will definitely repurchase these shades since they are really pretty. For some the stickyness of the gloss might be annoying but I have started to get use to it and now I like the feeling of the product!

[REVIEW] Travalo-- Refillable Travel Perfume Atomizer

I know I am not the only one who finds large perfume bottles a hassle to carry around. I usually have to take a different smaller size perfume bottle which never last that long! At last the brilliant idea of the traveling atomizer has saved me the annoyance of buying small sized perfumes. The best part is that they come in 10 super adorable colors! I was sent a pretty green atomizer.

The Travalo is a really tiny refillable perfume atomizer, it is super easy to refill and use. It easily lets you transfer your favorite perfume in a handy travel size container. It comes in a clear plastic tube which is really convenient for traveling and keeping your atomizer safe.

It is the smallest container that holds your favorite perfume! I like how they kept the nozzle the same size as regular perfume bottles.

So how do you refill this little atomizer?

Firstly remove the top of the perfume spray bottle exposing the stick, make sure you place your perfume bottle on a flat surface. I am using my Versace Metal Jeans to refill.

Insert the stick of the bottle into the bottom of the Travalo container. Firmly press down pumping the stick repeatedly until the container is filled. It is easier to fill the container with the lid on. It takes about 30+ pumps to get it entirely filled.

The bottom of the container doesn’t leak at all!

And that is IT! It is that simple. You can tell when the container is filled by seeing the clear window.The Travalo is so extremely lightweight yet sturdy. It easily fits in the tiniest clutches.

Overall this is a genius idea, I absolutely love this product. Its perfect for those who love to carry around their favorite scents.

You do have to swirl your powder brush into the product to get a sufficient amount of product. I find that the first layer I have to blend in really well then add a second layer to get a more richer pigmentation. It blends into the skin really easily.

Packaging:

The product comes in a large compact, I like how the lid is see through so you can see the shade. The only issue I have is that the lid is not securely fit with the product so the cap can easily be removed or snapped off.

You get 11.8g worth of product which is a TON for a blush. I compared my other drugstore blushes such as Cover Girl, Elf and MUA and most of them were minimum 3g and at most 6g. For the price it's worth the amount you get.

To Sum it Up:
I think this is a great blush, I perfer wearing a matte blush during the day since its the most natural looking. The shade gives a great pop of color on the cheeks. You do have to layer on the product a few times depending on the brush you are using, it applies well with a very dense fluffy brush to pack on the color. For darker complexions you might have to layer on the product more than three times. The color stays put with foundation for quite some hours. Without foundation I find that if I try to blend it in it ends up disappearing. I tested the longevity of the blush with foundation and the color was still vibrant even after 5 hours.

[December 22, 2011]: L’Oréal Paris, the world’s leading beauty brand, and the pioneering Pakistan Fashion Design Council [PFDC] presented the fourth and final day of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week - a platform that endeavoured to define and present contemporary and traditional Pakistani Bridal fashion, jewellery and make-up trends, which together created the ‘look’ for the Bridal Season 2012.

The fourth day of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week included three fashion shows and one solo jewellery show. Bridal fashion showcases were by Karma, Nida Azwer and Umar Sayeed and the jewellery show was by Damas. The day was attended by celebrities, media, the fashion fraternity and buyers/stockists such as the Manchester based Imani Studio and the Pakistani based Ensemble.

Each day of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was styled by a different creative team and to this end models on Day 4 were styled by Ather Shahzad with men’s styling by Khawar Riaz for all shows except for Umar Sayeed's which was styled entirely by Ather Shahzad.

The PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week has been produced by Catwalk Productions, with event coordination by R-Team, set design by Hamza Tarar, official photography by DragonFly and public relations by Lotus. The Black Carpet for PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was sponsored by Damas.

Fashion Show: Karma

Entitled ‘Enchanted’, Karma presented a collection which derived its inspiration from dark fairy tales, their feared villainesses and beloved heroines. The mood was dark and the colour palette was an exploration of velvet noir, evil jewels to candy wrapper pops and an amalgamation of both, the showcase also featured trousseau to bridal wardrobe and mixed up the silhouettes to make the age-old contemporary, adventurous and strong. Karma remains for the strong fearless woman who is always the adored star of the show but wears her dark twisted side with pride. It was an ode to the darkly beautiful and the layered luxurious. Menswear was also seen on the Karma ramp as designed by Ammar Belal, who showcased a capsule Menswear’ bridal collection.

Founded in 2000, Karma has completed a definitive decade in fashion. The journey began with the aim of capturing its share in Pakistan’s growing couture industry. Driven by principles of originality, glamour and professionalism, the team at Karma embraced its mission giving first priority to satisfying its clientele. Karma consists of three brands, Karma Pink (Prêt), Karma Red (Couture) and Karma Princess (Girls Age 1-12). Today, Karma is known to deliver style, taste and elegance and in doing so, it is revamping the image of the eastern girl. With Maheen Kardar Ali as the fashion force behind the label and Saad Ali as CEO, Karma has not only won the Lux Style Award three times which includes the Best Womenswear and Couture in Karachi and Dubai and Best Prêt Wear for Karma Pink in Malaysia but as a company, revolutionised its sector as the market leader in providing a high fashion retail experience.

Fashion Show: Nida Azwer

The second solo fashion show of the evening was by Nida Azwer with her bridal collection, entitled the ‘Awadh Court Collection’. The collection spelt tradition, culture and heritage, in harmony with the designers’ signature style of merging vintage craftsmanship with modern sensibilities. Nida’s collection drew inspiration from the Awadh Dynasty's rich and royal cultural heritage which was known for its grandiose traditions and opulence, in the early 18th century in the Sub Continent. With attention to be found in the intricate detailing, classic cuts and embellishments in Zardozi and Ari with Swarovski crystals, Nida’s collection was based in hues of red and pink, ivory and antique gold. The design house used pure hand woven silk, lamé and pure French lace for this collection. While the Awadh Court Collection was predominantly a womenswear collection, this was the first time the designer introduced pieces of menswear couture alongside her bridal wear for women. The label also showcased its exclusive line for children which was introduced earlier this year and is retailed by the name Nida Azwer Kids. Sufi musician Sanam Marvi sang live for Nida Azwer.

Talking about the event, Nida said, “PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week brought us all an opportunity to be a part in interpreting bridal trends in fashion and beauty and everything within”

Nida Azwer has been designing and working in fashion under the aegis of her eponymous label since 2005. Her label includes Bridal, prêt-à-porter, Couture lines with her most recent fashion expansion being an exclusive line for children. In a further organic extension, the fashion house will also be introducing a Prêt a Porter menswear line between 2011 and 2012. The label has come to be recognised for the designers' love of more classic and vintage design elements infused with traditional Pakistani craft such as ‘tukri ka kaam’, ‘rilli’, ‘kantha’, 'zardozi' and miniature embroidery worked into contemporary fashion silhouettes. Everything made under the Nida Azwer label is hand-worked in Pakistan using only pure fabrics including Irish linen, chiffons, hand-woven silks and brocade. Indeed Nida Azwer is best known for infusing her label with attention to detail, innovative cuts, silhouettes and tailoring.

Jewellery Show: Damas

The showcase by Damas was the third and last solo jewellery show at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week. The multinational jewellery brand presented a wide array of its brands including: Marco Bicego, everyday luxury jewellery reflecting Italian craftsmanship; Mikimoto, originator of cultured pearls which reflected the mystery of creation, combining the best of both worlds – traditional elegance with sophisticated modern design; Boudoor, the popular trilogy collection inspired by the different phases of the moon; Nakshatra’s diamond jewellery which reflected a slice of the night sky and the luminosity of countless stars and romance, a tribute to the beauty of the Marquise diamond. In addition to the above, Luca Carati, Fope Pasquale Bruni, Roberto Coin Jawaher, Kiku, Legacy and Manthourah were also a part of this showcase. L’Oréal Pakistan spokesperson Meesha Shafi opened the Damas showcase singing 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend' live on stage.

Umar Sayeed has been on the national fashion radar for the last two decades, renowned for his ultra-chic and understated glamour as manifest across his lines which include Bridals, Couture, Formal wear, Prêt-à-porter and Menswear. His bridal showcase was opened and closed by actor, musician and model Fawad Khan and actress Mahira Khan Askari, also lead actors of much acclaimed drama serial “Humsafar”.

In the past Umar has been the recipient of many coveted awards including the Best Designer award in 2002, 2004 and 2005 at the prestigious Lux Style Awards. A leading name in couture, Umar’s romantic, crystal-encrusted evening and bridal gowns continue to attract brides-to-be from various countries. His creations comprise of luxurious details such as hand beading and intricate craftsmanship. Umar integrates hand embroidery with both delicately complex and bold designs. The House of Umar Sayeed also works with select male clients with his exclusive menswear line, including embroidered shirts, formal jackets with well-placed appliqués and fine details.

Fashion Show: Ali Xeeshan

Day 3 of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was opened by Crimson by Ali Xeeshan with a collection titled ‘Pahalgam’. Named after the breath-taking city in the valley of Kashmir, the Pahalgam collection was the designers’ interpretation of what he envisions the city to look like and the magnificence it captures. His collection represented brides adorned in plain fabrics of different kinds; ornamentation and decoration-free clothes that represented a vivid play of colour. With Pahalgam, Ali looked to prove that style and beauty originate from within a person’s own character rather than the amount of embellishment on a piece of clothing. Designed especially for today’s chic bride who wants to pull off an unconventional ensemble, Ali Xeeshan’s Pahalgam bridal showcase highlighted that the splendour brides relish, will only come from within.

Ali Xeeshan is a graduate of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design (PIFD) and holds an honours degree in Couture and an award for the Best Collection at the institute. As a designer, he takes inspiration from within the Pakistani culture. Having diversified into a diffusion prêt-a-porter line, a formal collection for men and a complete range of accessories as part of Crimson by Ali Xeeshan, Ali Xeeshan is predominantly a couturier focusing on formal and bridal wear with a signature style of using unusual shades of colour and high end luxurious fabrics merged with the unconventional embellishment techniques in both traditional and contemporary cuts.

Fashion Show: Rouge

Following Ali Xeeshan’s bridal showcase was a solo fashion show by Rouge with a contemporary fusion collection; a tribute to designer Faraz Manan’s mother, Memoona Manan. Crafted in Persian cultural embroidery, ‘zardozi’, with jewel-based embellishments across colours such as navy blue, kelly green, gold, off white and coral pink – Memoona’s favourite colours – ganga-jamni was also used in select outfits, creating an overall vintage look and feel.

The brother and sister duo behind Rouge, Faraz and Sundas Manan, took over their mother’s business, and are sought-after for their couture and bridal wear, locally and internationally. With Faraz’s degree in Economics and Sundas as a graduate from the coveted London College of Fashion, Rouge has had the honour of designing couture for Victoria Beckham as well as the Saudi Royal Family. Speaking about his label, designer Faraz Manan said, “Rouge is about modern silhouettes with an Eastern touch embellished to give a vintage look incorporating local fabrics.”

Fashion Show: Sara Rohale Asghar

Sara Rohale Asghar’s bridal week collection drew inspiration from the rich wedding culture both in rural and urban Pakistan. Entitled ‘Tehzeeb-e-Baymisaal’, the collection consisted of a wide range of chiffons, silks, keem khabs, jamawars and zarris. With a variety of cuts such as a-line, structured to the more flowy silhouette, S.R.A.’s collection for PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week maintained her signature style embellishment with intricate detailing using dabka, stones and gems. A collection set in a range of colours, ‘Tehzeeb-e-Baymisaal’ had been made specifically for a range of wedding ceremonies such as the Mehndi, Baraat and Walima. Canadian-Pakistani band “Josh” performed live for Sara Rohale Asghar performing a medley of their popular songs.

Speaking about her label, Sara Rohale Asghar said, “The philosophy at S.R.A. is to create clothes which are unique, have individuality and have market viability. The objective is to amplify and enhance one’s personality while maintaining traditional grandeur.”

A Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design graduate in 2006, Sara Rohale Asghar [S.R.A.] started her career as a fashion designer with the label Meeras by Nilofer Shahid where she co-designed a collection which was showcased in Paris in January 2007. She launched her brand the same year and is currently stocking her luxury prêt wear at the PFDC [Lahore] and L’atelier in Islamabad while designing custom couture at her studio. S.R.A.’s designs are known for their detailing, style and grandeur manifest within the signature embellishments and embroideries set in a unique mix of colours. With a focus on the motifs and patterns from design to placement, S.R.A. gives each of her pieces a custom look with a blend of originality and novelty yet always remaining closely knitted to Pakistani cultural roots.

Fashion Show: Asifa & Nabeel

The day closed with Asifa & Nabeel’s bridal week collection, titled ‘Ottoman Royalty’. The collection was inspired from the treasures of Ottoman sultans such as the armour worn studded with diamonds, coffee sets in solid gold studded with rubies and emeralds and followed the history of the defeat of the Ottomans by Kemal Ataturk, forced to leave behind their prized possessions, including the famous peacock throne of Bahadur Shah Zafar. The show opened with the title song of popular Pakistani television serial “Humsafar” sung live by musician Quratulain Balouch (QB), which was followed by another live musical performance by singer Bilal Khan. The show concluded with another song by QB.

Asifa & Nabeel is an established label, having been around for the past 13 years and is well renowned and respected for its Bridal, Prêt-à-porter and Couture lines. In 1998, their innate creative talent and keen sense of design resulted in an exhibition that completely sold out during the set up for display. This proved to be a compelling source of encouragement for the duo and since then, their efforts are manifest in ensembles that spell ethereal elegance and panache. Indeed, their signature style is found in their flamboyant use of diverse fabrics and unique interplay of colours and cuts. The brand currently retails in three of Pakistan’s major cities as well as to an international clientele.

My eyes are the one area I try to focus on more as I age. Most mornings my eyes feel irritated and itchy and on days I have to wake up extra early my eyes feel even more itcky! How to Use:

Apply Eyebright to cotton wool pad to clean and wake up your eyes first thing.

For a revitalising, soothing compress, soak 2 cotton wool pads in Eyebright and place over eyes and relax for 5 – 10 minutes.

The lotion isn't exactly a lotion, its a clear water-like consistency which applies similar as a toner.

There are a few ways you can use this product. I prefer using this product first thing in the morning by taking 2 cotton squares and soaking them in the product and leaving them on my eyes for about 5 minutes. If I don't have time in the morning I would the just apply a quick dab of the product on a cotton pad and apply it over my eyes, it absorbs really quickly. Another way is to use it to remove light eye makeup. It does a great job of removing any residue that may get left behind, especially on days when I apply eyeliner in my upper lash line and waterline it does a good job of removing it. This actually works great if you made a small mistake on your eyeshadow or eyeliner, it doesn't leave behind a greasy residue.

Packaging:

The product comes in a twist up bottle which I haven't been so fond of. You do get enough product since you are applying this on the eyes.

To Sum it up:

I absolutely love the scent of the product, it is not harsh or strong but very delicate. The product gives a nice cooling sensation on the eyes which helped my tired eyes in the morning. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and I feel it has helped my eyes feel more awake in the morning. I haven't noticed a change in my dark circles considering I have only used it for a short amount of time. I would prefer if this product came in a Roll-On that I can easily use to apply in the morning without fussing with a cotton pad.

Fashion Show: Fahad Hussayn

Day 2 of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was opened by Fahad Hussayn with his collection entitled ‘Raat Raakh’ which was inspired by an epic tale of a night traveller, a bride, who has lost love and is seeking another. Through this collection, Fahad Hussayn endeavoured to materialise the story of her journey and of all those who come between this world and her’s with his signature edgy grandeur and intricate couture detailing. A tribute to the beauty of the night with multi-cultural influences, Fahad Hussayn introduced his interpretations of the Christian bride, a Parsi bride, the friends who surround the bride, a Nawab, a Muslim bride and her family. Using a variety of fabrics for ‘Raat Raakh’ such as cotton, cotton nets, pure Mughal jamavar, chiffon, velvet, suede, faux fur and silks with sleek cuts and straight lines with volume and drapes, the embellishments used were resham, zardozi, crystal work and appliqué. The collection was predominantly black, but also highlighted shades of night fall.

Speaking about Bridal Week Fahad Hussayn said, “PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week is a really exciting blend. PFDC has proven to be consistent and is striving towards excellence, the shows are organised in a very industrial manner, taking fashion and the business of fashion to where it belongs.”

Born in Faisalabad, Fahad Hussayn graduated from Beaconhouse National University in Lahore with a degree in Textile Design. Adept in bridal couture clothing, formal and evening wear, Hussayn’s designs celebrate tradition and intricacy meshed with modern sensibilities. In 2007, he opened his atelier and is now successfully stocking his collections in stores across the country and internationally, in India and Dubai. Fahad Hussayn has been nominated twice at the Lux Style Awards in 2008 and in 2009 for Emerging Talent and Menswear Designer categories, respectively. Indeed, Fahad Hussayn’s couture looks to provide its clients with high end fashion and trousseau clothing; pure grandeur blended with the right amount of edge being their key design philosophy.

Jewellery Show: GOLD by Reama Malik

Following Fahad Hussayn’s bridal showcase was a jewellery collection; GOLD by Reama Malik. Entitled ‘The Mehr Collection', Reama Malik debut jewellery show was named after her daughter Mehreen, and was inspired by the concept of timelessness and what it means in the world today. Featuring a blend of traditional and modern jewellery, GOLD by Reama Malik presented a collection that was colour coordinated into red for rubies, blue for sapphires, green for emeralds in addition to crafting pieces with gold, pearls and diamonds. Traditional techniques in kundun and polki accented with meenakari as seen in the Mughal era were engaged alongside the more modern diamond settings as used in the West. Speaking about the Pakistan Fashion Design Council and its collaboration with L’Oréal Paris, Reama Malik said, “The PFDC, under the guidance of Sehyr Saigol, has established the Pakistani fashion designers as a serious industry in Pakistan. The bar is already set very high so people expect only the best from the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week.”

Reama started GOLD in 1987 in the United States. What first started as a hobby has now grown into a coveted jewellery brand, following Reama’s return to Pakistan. Her work includes a diverse spectrum of jewellery including rings, necklaces, bespoke pendants and chokers, with an emphasis on high end polki, diamond and pearl pieces. Reama’s biggest source of inspiration is the sheer beauty of the world around her and she is a strong believer in following traditions and not trends. Specialising in bespoke jewellery of the best quality, all her pieces are hand crafted in her Lahore-based workshop under her close scrutiny and supervision.

Fashion Show: Emraan Rajput

The third solo show of Day 2 presented fashion designer Emraan Rajput with his collection, ‘Vedaas’. For this collection, Emraan Rajput drew inspiration from Pakistan’s cultural heritage as reflected in the traditional colours of South East Asia. Emraan’s intention was to define ‘Vedaas’ from being a traditional symbol of vision into a representation of rich culture and aesthetic sense. With a firm belief that a mix of traditional colours has the ability to unite different cultures, Emraan’s ‘Vedaas’ included a rich collection of colourful embroidered sherwanis for men and traditional bridal lehengas for women.

Launched in 2009, Emraan Rajput’s vision is to create fashion that combines great personal style with long lasting utility. Clean, modern shapes, a nod to the classics, and an element of surprise are the fundamental principles of the label while elegance, simplicity, and enduring quality are all essential considerations when designing each creation. On being part of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week, Emraan said, “PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week has provided me a grand opportunity to exhibit my vision, creativity and craftsmanship in showcasing a bridal collection of my own… Bridal Week is an exhibition of exquisite workmanship, latest traditional trends, rich elegance and classic fashion.”

Fashion Show: Maria B.

The final showcase for Day 2 was Maria B.’s bridal collection entitled ‘From Paris to Lahore’. True to its name, this collection started with an inherently French/Western signature showcasing modern, feminine cuts where the palette was subdued and sombre with a strong emphasis on elegance. From this French inspired segment, the collection moved into the traditional Sub Continental context where it celebrated Eastern culture in all of its opulence, colour and extravagance.

Maria B. is one of the largest manufacturers and retailers of women’s fashion in Pakistan. Her eponymous brand was launched with a vision to revolutionise women’s retail in the country and to create Pakistan’s first women's fashion brand after her graduation from the prestigious Pakistan School of Fashion Design [now Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design] in 1998. Today, Maria B. has 11 outlets across the country and five brands under the label including: Maria B. cottons, Mgirl, Maria B. Evening, Maria B. Lawn and Maria B. Brides. In 1997, Maria B. won an international fashion competition held in Belgium by the name of ‘Les Etoiles de la Mode’. Here, she was also named as one of the three upcoming designers in the world. Maria B. has always worked on an export-oriented strategy, for which purpose her product lines have been displayed at fashion events across the world including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Paris, Birmingham, Manchester and Bangkok. Maria B. is currently available in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Oslo, New Delhi, Dubai and Manchester.

[DAY 1] PFDC L'Oréal Paris Bridal Week- Nabila, HSY, Kiran Fine Jewellery, Sonia Azhar

On December 19, 2011 The first day of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was held in Lahore. I was unable to attend because I don't live in Lahore but I wanted to share with you the photos that were provided to me! Enjoy

L’Oréal Paris, the world’s leading beauty brand, and the pioneering Pakistan Fashion Design Council [PFDC] presented day 1 of the PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week – a platform that endeavours to define and present contemporary and traditional Pakistani Bridal fashion, jewellery and make-up trends, fusing to create the ‘look’ for the Bridal Season 2012.

Day 1 was attended by leading fashion personalities, media and stockists/buyers including Pakistani multi label boutiques Ensemble and Brands – Just Pret and the Manchester based, Imani Studio.

The first day of bridal week featured an exclusive style show by Nabila, solo fashion shows by HSY and Sonia Azhar respectively along with a jewellery showcase by Kiran Fine Jewellery, as summarised below. Each day of PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week is being styled by a different creative team and to this end, Day 1 was styled by Nabila with men’s styling by Khawar Riaz.

Style Show: Nabila

PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week was opened by the iconic stylist and Creative Consultant for L’Oréal Paris Nabila with her show, ‘Gold to Bold’. Nabila and her creative team interpreted four versions of a traditional bride and showcased a more modern day interpretation of the same. Nabila’s key style trend was to convey how being traditional can also look timeless and elegant, while the same ideas can be modified and modernised for a bride who looks to be more contemporary. ‘Gold to Bold’ suggested that the focus should remain on the bride's individuality, personality and confidence. Designer Zaheer Abbas worked closely with Nabila to create the wardrobe for this style show.

Nabila first opened her salon in May 1986. She has since redefined fashion, style and imagery in Pakistan. Indeed, throughout her 25-year career in beauty, she has contributed extensively towards refining the image of the media industry. Nabila clasps both eclectic and original styles in her work and in her own sense of fashion. She is known for her specialised touch, be it hair, styling or dramatic make-up for shoots. At Nabila, the creative team works with all aspects of hair, make-up and styling, believing that individualism and attention to detail are key in customising styles.

Nabila also just recently launched a new division, NPro – a one-stop specialised professional division catering to couture-based styling needs.

Nabila did the styling for the female models for all the shows for Day 1.

Fashion Show: HSY

Following Nabila’s Style Show HSY showcased a collection, entitled ‘Game of Kings’, inspired by the majestic sport of Polo. The show opened with professional polo player Shameel Alam, walking the ramp for HSY followed by L’Oréal Paris spokesperson Meesh Shafi with her great dane on the ramp. The collection comprised of both menswear and womenswear, accompanied by leather bags made for HSY by Vintage Montana. ‘The Game of Kings’ by HSY was designed in silk, chiffon, brocade, net, leather, tropical suiting, fur, karandi, suede and cotton with emphasis on surface embellishments, both classic and contemporary. The colours that dominated HSY’s collection were tan, black, gold and chocolate.

With over a decade gone since it was established (in 2000), HSY is best known for combining contemporary silhouettes with the traditional techniques of old. The brand’s inspiration is distinctly Pakistani and Middle Eastern peppered with Western influences. Easily recognised as one of the biggest names in fashion in the region, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin is the fashion force behind the label and has been referred to as the ‘New King of Couture’ by Harper’s Bazaar magazine. Hassan himself holds an honours degree in Couture from the Pakistan School of Fashion Design, an affiliate of La Chambre Syndicale De La Couture Parisienne, France. Currently serving as a member of the board of directors of the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design, Hassan is also one of the founding members of the PFDC and the recipient of multiple ‘Designer of the Year’ awards, including the Ahlan Fashion and Lifestyle awards in 2009, the Lux Style Award in 2005 and in 2007, the Most Stylish Fashion Icon at the MTV Style Awards in 2008 and Style Guru of the Year by Indus Style Awards in 2007.

Jewellery Show: Kiran Fine Jewellery

The third show of the evening was by Kiran Fine Jewellery titled ‘Sceptres of Beauty’. The collection took inspiration from every woman’s innate need to conceal, protect and provoke. For centuries, through ancient civilisations to modern times, women have used basic tools like the mask, hand-held fan and the parasol to do exactly that: conceal, protect and provoke. These three instincts have been reinvented with the revolution of the cosmetic beauty industry. And so, these three ‘Sceptres of Beauty’ assimilated in this collection as a tribute to ‘the women of all times’. Kiran Fine Jewellery’s showstopper for the evening was Pakistan’s most revered classical dancer Naheed Siddiqui.

“A woman’s innate desires will always remain the same no matter how much she appears to have evolved on the outside,” said Kiran Aman of Kiran Fine Jewellery on her inspiration behind her debut solo jewellery show. Showcasing jewellery pieces such as necklaces, earrings, pendants, rings and teekas (head and forehead adornments), ‘Sceptres of Beauty’ was

handmade with cutwork and carving using metals such as gold and silver and stones such as lapis, coral and malachite together with red and green sapphires.

The wardrobe for the jewellery show was designed by Yasmin Shaikh.

Kiran Fine Jewellery epitomises the woman of substance, who wears jewellery not simply to adorn but to reflect the essence within. Founded in 2003 by the multi-faceted Kiran Aman, each piece of jewellery is crafted with the finest materials with a deliberate focus on gold, as the designer believes its strength, warmth and malleability is a veritable representation of the women for whom she designs. Kiran has received accolades for her work in jewellery design, which includes the Nesvita Women of Strength award for Best Jewellery Designer. Her jewellery has further been worn by models, stylists, celebrities and Pakistani icons at a variety of shows and events in Pakistan and internationally.

Fashion Show: Sonia Azhar

Sonia Azhar showcased her fashion collection entitled ‘Enlightenment’ where she endeavoured to revive the ancient artwork used in the Victorian and Mughal eras. Her colours for the collection were inspired by nature – God’s creation. ‘Enlightenment’ was divided into six segments: the Opal collection – where Sonia used shades of ivory, beige and pink as present in ivory stone cotton thread embroidery; the Monochrome Pink segment – where the threads in the embroidery and embellishments duplicated the specific colour of light; the Aquamarine collection – using aqua blended together with shades of the sea and the Feroza stone; the Sunset collection – highlighting how the day gives into the smoky grey evenings and eventually the night; the Roses Red segment – signifying the colour of love and the unification of two souls; and lastly, the Midnight Blue collection – which blended the romance of a starry night with the mystery of a moonlit night. Highlights of the show were celebrity show stoppers, film actor Moammar Rana, musician Hadiqa Kiyani and actor Adeel Hashmi.

Sonia Azhar of Sonia Design Concepts is an Architecture graduate from the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore. With fashion design experience spanning over 15 years, Sonia Design Concepts specialises in couture. Her craftsmen work under her supervision and guidance using embellishments as the base blending a diversity of colours and fabrics with different stitching techniques. Her collections have been well received nationally and abroad and to this end, she has showcased her work in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, London and Glasgow to name a few.

[TUTORIAL] Almost a Rainbow Eyes using Nature's Brilliance by Sue

Hello Everyone,

So since I received a few eye shadow samples from Nature's Brilliance by Sue I wanted to play around with the colors. For my review on the eyeshadows you can see them here.

Here is the look I came up with! Its a fun multicolor look, if you want a toned down look you can simply use the blue and purple as a liner on the lower lashline.

Lets start off with a base, I wanted the shimmer to be a bit vibrant so I am using a creamy eyeshadow pencil from Davis Eye in No 20.

Apply a vibrant orange on the center of the lid, leaving the inner corner bare. I used Sunset Peach making sure to pack on the color with a flat shader brush.

Using the same brush, wipe off the excess and pick up a shimmery pink toned red. I used Primrose Princess applying it on the outer corner and blending it up into the crease.

Taking a deeper red on a pencil brush, apply this over Primrose Princess to define the crease. I used an Etude Shadow.

Taking a blending brush and gently blend the shadows, this part was tricky since you don't want to blend the red too much.

Taking a white eyeliner, I used Etude's Creamy Eyeliner in White. You want to blend the liner with a bit of the orange shadow making it into a light peach color.

Taking a matte cream color shadow on an angled brush, apply this on the highest point of your eyebrow. I used Catrice's Absolute Eye Color in 070 Double Espresso Macchaito, Please!

This is what you should have so far!

Now lets work on the lower lashline, taking a shimmery purple eyeliner apply this as a base for the purple shadow. I used a matte shadow in Orchid Brilliance with Stila's Smudge Pot in Violet since it has a bright blue undertone with visible shimmer.

Using a bright sky blue shadow, I used Robins Egg by applying it on a wet angled liner brush. I should have applied the purple wet to get a very saturated finish since you want to pack on the color.

Apply your favorite liquid liner, pencil liner and mascara in black. I used Look by Bipa Liquid Eyeliner, Revlon Colorstay and Elf's Waterproof mascara.

You want to apply the liquid liner with a bit of a wing where the red shadow is so there is a nice contrast with the bright blue on the lashline.

So here is the finished look! Let me know what you think. I think this look would be a bit better if I had some false lashes!

The Pomegranate Cream Lip Gloss in Orchids in Bloom is a true violet shade which shows up as a light purple tint on my lips. The texture of the product is really smooth, almost like a lip balm. The scent is a bit fruity, I am guessing its pomegranate. The ingredients lists pomegranate butter as an ingredient along with shea butter which makes the product creamy to apply and not sticky. I do like applying this with a peachy color lipstick, it changes the color into a deep rose color.

INGREDIENTS: Pomegranate Butter (Pomegranate Fruit, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil), Castor Seed Oil, Beeswax, Carnauba Wax, Glycerin (Veg.), Lecithin (Veg.), Jojoba Protein HP, Organic Sunflower Seed Oil, Natural Vitamin E and Vitamin C, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Mica and Iron Oxide.

Sunset Peach is a vibrant orange.
Primrose is a pink tone red.
Green Apples is a vibrant neon green.
Orchid Brilliance-Matte is a bit darker than lilac.
Robins Egg is a true sky blue color.

The quality of all the shadows is really quite exceptional. Each of the eyeshadows are really buttery and smooth, including the matte shadow. The pigmentation is just as amazing, usually I find that mineral eyeshadows give its true pigmentation by applying them wet but you really don’t need to do that, the smallest amount of the eyeshadow gives a great amount of color.

Peach Sunset is a true peachy biege blush with loads of shimmer. It has the same texture and pigmentation as the eyeshadows. It applies really smoothly, though if you want the peach shade to be more visible than the product must be layered at least twice. Blended out only the shimmer shows up which works as a great highlight with a deep matte peach shade.

To Sum it Up:

The mineral eyeshadows and blush have the same texture and pigmentation. I really enjoy wearing the eyeshadows, usually with mineral shadows I have to use them wet to get a rich pigmentation but with these I didn't need to. They apply very well and blend really effortlessly. The shimmer in the blush is very pretty, they are very fine so they appear very natural on the skin giving a nice glow.
